Responsibility Leads to Power, by Sally Keane

In the world of personal development, the idea of being responsible for what we create is no longer an unfamiliar concept.

More and more beings on this planet appear to be moving towards taking responsibility for the circumstances they find themselves in and less and less towards looking for someone to blame.

Why is this so?

The realisation is that the moment we adopt a willingness to investigate our own contribution towards an undesirable result, we allow ourselves a role in attempting to change it.

Opposingly, if we insist on no involvement of self within the situation, ie “It was all his fault”, “circumstances were completely out of my hands” etc., we relinquish at that moment any methods of controlling it.

How are we to change something if we played no single part in its occurrence?

Simply put, we cannot.

Relinquishing our own responsibility places the responsibility squarely on the shoulders of another and quite separate from ourselves. Therefore, if we desire any changing of the situation, we must rely completely on another’s desire and ability to change it for us.

Effectively, we are communicating to not only the other players in this game, but in my opinion, to the universe itself – “Here you go, here’s all my power, take it with you, do with it what you will. I’ll just wait quietly over here looking for someone to blame.”

Ironically, we are looking at this moment to escape any responsibility within the very cycles of actions that we are actually a part of!

How can it be that we find ourselves involved in these circumstances that we apparently had absolutely nothing to do with creating?

The content of our lives is created from an intention. An intention is a knowingness, a fixed direction of the mind towards achieving a particular result.

The mind is a thought generated computer, made up of conscious and sub-conscious portions. The conscious or analytical portion of the mind tends to create the wanted and desirable effects of which we are generally aware. The sub-conscious mind, due to its hidden or unknown content, is the portion of the mind that is often responsible for creating the undesirable or seemingly unwanted products in our lives.

What this means is simple. Whilst we are still responsible for the creation of difficult or upsetting circumstances in our lives, we are not necessarily consciously aware that we are doing it.

As beings we are all powerful and free. We consciously intend happiness and success for ourselves and for those around us. The sub-conscious content of the mind, however, often acts as a storage centre for upsetting or painful memories from the past. These memories can sometimes impinge into our present time environment, effecting our judgements, perceptions and actions.

When at the effect of these subconscious memories, we may act or react in a way we would not ordinarily choose to. The result of this sometimes manifests in unwanted circumstances for us and those with whom we play the game of life. And yet, we only have now.

Memories from the past, whilst they do have the ability to effect us, can only do so if we allow them to. They are our memories, our thoughts, our creations.

As beings, we are bigger and more powerful than our creations and can therefore be affected by them only when we allow them to grow larger than us.

Sometimes when we feel out of present time and weighed down by the memory(s) of some past upsetting moment, simply recognising where we are in our minds and remembering we have a choice not to dwell there, can bring us back to the now.

In the now, decisions, actions and consequences are analytically or consciously generated and are far more likely to produce effects that are wanted rather than unwanted.

We all have a responsibility to identify and partake in the activities that make us feel extroverted, present and happy.

Exercise, spending time with high-energy, effective people, constructing things, eating well, working towards a purpose or goal, can all help us to live more regularly in the now.

Find the things that increase your own energy levels and happiness and make them a part of your everyday life.

Notice how life improves when you choose to involve yourself in activities that encourage you to be present.

Notice how choosing to live in the now actively discourages the sub-conscious creation of unwanted effects.

The same unwanted effects that can lure you into believing you had no part in their creation.

Be responsible with what you create.

Be the owner of your creations.

The POWER IS IN YOU.
